Coworking space has been gaining popularity in recent times unlike before and with it comes certain tales of what it entails, that notwithstanding, it does not mean that coworking spaces have not been booming in the business field.

It is of great importance that the advent of coworking space is dished out for a better digestion of the myths surrounding them. San Francisco is the hometown of the first official coworking space in 2005. It was set up by a programmer Brad Neuberg though it was closed after a year and Hat Factory succeeded it.

Coworking space was first conceptualized in Berlin in 1995 by an association of engineers popularly called C - base and they started what was called "Hackerspace" and it did become a worldwide movement. It spread in communities with wifi networks inclusive for individuals who worked there.

As history would have it, in 1999,  Bernard De Koven, an American game designer came up with the word co-working to describe the spectable of professionals from different areas of specialization and same industry working together in a same physical and close proximity, collaborating rather than competing especially for startups.

With your understanding of the advent of coworking spaces, let's jump into the myths.

Myth # 1
Coworking is meant for tech-entrepreneurs, creatives, and freelancers
It seems quite understandable that freelancers are more prone to patronizing coworking spaces but that does not conclude that the rest should be excluded. It is easier for someone who works full time to create time for other schedules. For people who appreciate the flexibility and openness of a coworking space, they could be working out of one. At Treehouse Society, we have had students, contract workers, nonprofits, and corporate employees who appreciated our environment and joined our community.

Myth #2
Coworking spaces has a lot of distractions and noise
The fact that it is not a typical or conventional office environment does not imply that you can do anything when you are there. It is a fact that coworking spaces encourages cooperation and discussions but it does not guarantee noise making.

Myth #3
Coworking is big city friend- small city enemy
Coworking has its perks that can be added to a small town and thereby making it successful. If small businesses or startups in small towns are in isolation, there is a higher possibility of failure. With this in viw, coworking through its collaborative system can help boost businesses in small cities.

Myth #4
Coworking results in ineffectiveness and unproductiveness
Firstly, coworking gives the kind of freedom that enhances creativity and efficacy. This is why most modern people choose to cowork to push their work to the next level. After all, you should not be building your product in isolation.
